Marcelo. A blog dedicated to my Government class. AHA.

SENIORS!!!

  • Best thing about being a senior was the independence and confidence I had. I trusted myself more and did others.
  • I’d tell my freshmen self: “Keep it up the good work.” Because I regret nothing.
  • A major news story that’s going to have a major impact on me is… this shitty economy, for obvious reasons.
  • A song that reminds me of senior year would be. Motto by Drake.
  • I rarely don’t get along with somebody, but this year I did on several occasions and I wasn’t really used to that. I learned that I’m not going to get along with everyone no matter how much I’d like to. Amen
  • I’m extremely proud of my show at Hatch. I moved up a step as a person and artist thanks to that show.
  • Academically my artifact would be all the personal essay I wrote for college applications. I grew as a writer from those, a lot.
  • Motto: Loosen up and fuck around a bit but maintain morals and standards. Don’t lose yourself.

Junior Year

  • The hardest thing about Junior year was… friends. I was becoming really close friends with the seniors and I felt liked I was in the wrong class. Once they graduated, I almost joined Independent Studies because I was lonely and tired of school. I just wanted more time to make art.
  • In terms of news, I really remember all the uprisings in the middle east (Egypt, Yemen etc). I was really excited and amazed by it all. I saw the world changing right before my eyes. It was really inspiring. I wondered why no one in the USA was protesting the issues we have here, but then came Occupy…
  • Biggest surprise of Junior year getting 24 of my faces on the Berkeley Times front page. Surreal.
  • I’m especially proud of all the growing I did as an artist. I learned a lot about the past and explored different avenues.
  • Moto: Live Life & Art.

Sophomore

  •  As Adam in Comic Potential.
  • Returning as a Sophomore I was more comfortable with BHS, with the Berkeley culture in general. I was getting a lot more involved in acting too, got the lead!
  • I remember the Haitian earthquake the most. So horrible. I was really moved by that news story. It also terrified me of a huge earthquake here.
  • I remember dissecting a pig fetus in Brewers class. God that was cool! I’d always seen it in the movies but now it was my turn to cut open an animal.
  • I was most proud of my acting in Comic Potential. I landed the lead as a Freshman and that show was the first of many things for me. I grew a lot as an actor and person while working with amazing people.  Also, I discovered Pop Art and that refocused me as an artist and since then visual arts are my priority. Thanks to Warhol and Pop I discovered my profound love and passion for art.
  • Become the Artist you want to be. Don’t hold back. Keep pushing for #1

Freshman

  • I remember Obama’s election into presidency the most. That very night where he was announced as the president of the United States. He came out with his wife and two daughters. Him in a classic suit, Michelle in a black dress with red beading. I almost cried, I felt so proud being as a minority seeing the first black president being elected.
  • The class I remember most was Ms. Erby’s class. That class really opened my eyes. We discussed modern day issues like: gay rights, stereotypes, immigration etc. Stereotypes really stuck with me. I remember criticizing every judgement my family members made about people without know them. “How do you know?” “You don’t know them”
  • I would re-do the way I took myself so seriously but that was also because I had no friends and was in a new school with so many new people I didn’t know. Insecurity played into it too.
  • That’s a photograph I took in Stahls photography class (Film).
  • Moto: Shoot for #1 baby!
